Upstream July 24
Good afternoon River Life,
It is so exciting for me to think about River Life folks serving Sacramento through Love, INC. this week! We have been doing a character study of Abraham the past 2 Sundays at worship and the call God put on his life to bless him in order to be a blessing still resonates with the call Jesus has on each one of us to be his hands and feet to forge new avenues where people can experience the Kingdom of God. This coming Sunday we will see what else that Abraham’s life can teach us about how to listen and respond to God.
Here’s what you need to know:
Pray for our students
We have some junior high and incoming high school students at camp this week and a group of our elementary children going to camp next week. Pray for our kids…that they will experience the kingdom breaking into their lives (kairos) and Jesus speaking very personally to each one.
Joseph Offering + The GreenHouse on August 4th
For those of you that are new to River Life in the past 4 years or so, in the beginning of this church, the founders had “4th Sunday”. They would gather 3 Sundays of the month to worship, fellowship, have teaching, and pray together…do church. The 4th Sunday they would gather, briefly, for some worship and then go out, as a community, and serve a specific area of Sacramento. This was their strategy for years.
On August 4th (Family Swim Sunday), we will do this very thing. As a community, we will gather to worship at 9:30 a.m. and after some time worshipping, we will load up and go serve at The GreenHouse. Brian Heller de Leon, along with other River Life folks, serve this incredible community in Natomas. Here’s what Brian wrote to let us know what we will be doing on August 4th:
River Life Family,
We are SO excited that you are coming for a “serve day” at The GreenHouse on August 4th. The building you are going to do some work on has been a 10-year dream for the ministry to bring to completion – you get to put the finishing touches on God’s work! (Isn’t that always the way it is!) Todd Smith from The GreenHouse board will be coordinating the work day for us.
The tasks for the 4th are as follows: Lots of painting, including some pretty tall interior spaces; building shelving in a shed; raking & pulling weeds in The GreenHouse garden for next planting; jack hammering out some concrete; and counting and sorting donated books. So there’s really something for everyone!
Here’s a list of tools to bring, if you have them. We will have some of this on site but the more that River Lifers bring, the better:
Need lots: Brushes, rollers, paint trays, masking/painters tape, loose rags, extension poles, ear/eye protection, work gloves
Need a few: Plastic or rag drop cloths, drills/screw guns, tape measurers, hammers, extension cords, shovels, rakes, hoes.
Also, if you have any spare lumber sitting around that’s in good condition, please let me know at email@example.com. Mostly need 2×4’s and good plywood for shelving. Whatever we can’t get donated, we will purchase –
