Upstream – July 24
Dear River Life,
It was so great to be with everyone this past Sunday! So many new folks sticking their feet into the stream of River Life and we are continually amazed when we hear stories of how people are finding us. So, if you’re new, welcome aboard. If you’ve been around River Life for awhile…make sure you take a deliberate step towards folks as they get to know us more as a church.
Here’s an update this week on the happenings at River Life…
Church Directory Photos
We are in the gathering stage for our new church directory and need your help! We will have photographers waiting after church on 8/12, 8/19, 8/26, and 9/9. This gives you FOUR SUNDAYS to gather up your family to get a picture taken for our Church Directory. We hope to put the directory out this fall but it won’t happen if we don’t have photos. If you would like your photo taken, please go to the front of Fellowship Hall after church for a picture to be taken. Thanks!
River Life Day at Stinson Beach and Manresa Beach
On Saturday, August 11th, some River Lifers are heading to the coast to spend the day relaxing, reading, eating, chatting, playing…in the sun. It’s BYO everything; except for the sand. Do you want to join us? Let us know so we can look for ya’. (Or for those non-committal types, just show up and stroll the beach until you find us!). Call or email Christal. This is also the same day that some families will be picking up their 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students from Frontier Ranch. After the pick up of camp, your family is invited to go to Manresa State Beach in Santa Cruz. Bring your own snacks and toys and we’ll have a fun day at the beach.
Leadership Team Nominations
It’s that time again to begin praying about our new members for our Leadership Team. If you would like to nominate anyone to serve in the capacity of giving vision, direction, and discerning together where the Lord may be calling River Life, please email me their names and/or Catherine Puckering at email@example.com (she is our Church Chair). To serve on the Leadership Team, they need to be members of River Life.
Children’s Ministry Teacher Training
Last count…we have a little over 80 children under 6th grade here at River Life…yes, I said 80!!! That’s not counting the new babies being born amongst us as the newer families that we have yet to count! Needless to say, we need your involvement in our children’s ministry. Michele Scarberry will be in the lobby the next two Sundays for those who would like more information or to sign up to teach for the coming school year. On August 26th right after church there will be a mandatory teacher training to help out for the upcoming school year. Please mark your calendars.
Convoy of Hope
As this year’s Sacramento Convoy of Hope approaches, (Saturday, September 15), we wanted you to have early advance information and links for signups and more. The link below is for the main page of Sacramento COH, the links at the top of page provide all the essentials, and of course the “volunteers” link will be the “place” that most of you and others sign up for serving that day, along with our entire community of faith. Signups need to be done personally for security and other purposes, the earlier, the better for the Convoy team. http://www.sacramentocoh.org/ If you do not use a computer or are uncomfortable with them, attached is a copy of a volunteer form which can be filled out and given to Pat Watters. These forms will also be available at the church office and on Sunday mornings. Further questions can also be directed to Pat Watters.
We have had a request for a baptism this summer. If you have been thinking about being baptized, please let me know if you would like to be baptized some time this summer. Currently, we have four people that have talked to me about wanting to be baptized. Stay tuned as we try and coordinate our schedules to celebrate this specific moment in the lives of our dear friends.
Our next membership class is August 12th after church! Again, it’s a “bring your own lunch” type of thing in the ministry house.
Fall Sermon Series
Our fall sermon series put out by Peter Scazzero called “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality” will begin September 9th. “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality” will be helping us with 2 important parts of our discipleship paradigm by addressing our UP relationship with Jesus and our IN relationships with other people. To purchase Emotionally Healthy Spirituality to read over the summer, you can click here to order: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1591454522/?tag=mh0b-20&hvadid=50551192&ref=pd_sl_61kssk6cm0_e. A video to explain more of this series can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrxB3lRbrgA&feature=plcp. This fall, I will be sending out discussion questions you can use in any group you are a part of (Life Group, men’s bible study, women’s bible study, etc…) to discuss the 8 weeks we will be in this series.
River Life Fall Women’s Retreat
September 21-23rd! Mark your calendars now!
Finally, I want to officially welcome Ethan Baker to our congregation! Parents, Kelvin and Dorie, were proud to welcome Ethan to their family one week ago today! Happy Birthday, Ethan, and we are so happy you’re here! If you would like to take the Bakers a meal (so you can hold Ethan!) contact Rachael Hoskins at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Grace & Peace,
