December 1st, 2012
For the May Joseph offering we will be assisting our Youth in serving dinner to the homeless at a Sacramento park. There are two ways you can give this month. We will collect cash (please note Joseph Offering on check or envelope) or gift cards to Safeway and Costco –or — you can bring the ingredients for a recipe. The recipes will be available on Sunday at the Joseph Offering table.
In Genesis 41, Joseph instructs Pharoah to store up items during a season of prosperity so that when a season of famine and drought happened, there would be resources for people. Pharoah thought this was a good idea and listened to his wise council. In light of the tougher economic reality, each month we will take a specific Joseph Offering of items. Each month, we will let you know what those items are and will collect them on the first Sunday of each month.

Every first Sunday of the month we will be doing something a bit different in worship. We are calling it Family Swim because the entire family of River Life will gather as a community for worship. This means children (Kindergarten and above), junior highers, high school, and everyone else. We will have our worship boxes for our younger ones; or for those young at heart! We will worship together but there will also be some important components you should be aware of. They are:
This is communion Sunday, so we will be headed to the table as a family partaking of the sacrament of communion together. There will be a short time of teaching as we approach the table.
We will be taking our Joseph Offering this Sunday. For January, we’re collecting items for four men living in Oak Park and working with Young Life. Please see the Joseph Offering post for the details.
We will have an open sharing and prayer time to find out what’s happening in our community and how to care for one another. Come ready to share and to pray for one another!
And, yes, in all this…first Sunday is our Donut Sunday. We have cut back on donuts and have decided to have them once a month. You will get your donut…yes, you will get your donut!
This will be a time of sharing from one another and, because of that, there will not be a sermon. Our living together as a community will be the message.
